Mold Presence

The presence of mold and dispersion of mold spores will reduce the indoor air quality of your home. Mold will also cause unsightly stains and unpleasant odors. It will not, however, cause structural damage. Mold tends to grow on surfaces rather than deep into substrates. In order for structural damage to occur decay fungi, mold's cousin, need to gain a foothold. Don't be complacent though. The presence of mold means that the conditions are probably right for the fungi that cause decay, too. Decay fungi spores, moisture, food, and temperatures over 40 degrees are all it takes for the rot process to begin.

Call us today at SERVPRO of Richmond Hill. You cant reach us 24/7, No matter the time we are prepared and ready for your disaster.

Different Types of Water Damage Categories

Do you know the difference in water losses? Do you know the restoration process will differ depending on the water category?

There are three different categories that a water loss is classified in depending on the category of water. These help us determine the best plan to make your water loss “Like it never even happened.”  SERVPRO of Richmond Hill trained technicians will diagnosis the type of water category depending on the source of the water damage. Here are the definitions of each category as defined by ANSI/IICRC S500-2015:

Category 1 Water – or “clean water” originates from a sanitary source and poses no substantial risk from dermal, ingestion, or inhalation exposure. Examples include but are not limited to broken water supply line, tub or sink overflows, melting ice or snow and broken toilet tank. Remember Category 1 water may not always remain clean after it comes into contact with other surfaces or materials and deteriorate to Category 2 or 3.

Category 2 Water – or “grey water” refers to a source of water that contains a significant degree of microorganisms and nutrients of micro-organisms including chemical, biological or physical contaminants and causes discomfort or sickness if contacted or consumed by humans. Examples include but are not limited to toilet bowls with urine (no feces), sump pump failures, seepage due to hydrostatic failure and water discharge from dishwashers or washing machines.

Category 3 Water - or "black water" and is grossly contaminated. This water contains unsanitary agents, harmful bacteria and fungi, causing severe discomfort or sickness and has adverse effects on the indoor environment. Examples include but are not limited to water sources from sewage, seawater, rising water from rivers or streams, ground surface water or standing water. Category 2 Water or Grey Water that is not promptly removed from the structure and or have remained stagnant may be re classified as Category 3 Water.

You can depend on SERVPRO of Richmond Hill to help navigate the water loss to ensure proper mitigation and restoration of your home or business “Like it never even happened."
